Step 1

Apply Online through ADF Careers

Submit an application expressing interest to join the Australian Defence Force through the ADF Careers portal. You will create an account with all your details and input your job preferences.

Step 2

ADF Aptitude Test

Once you have applied, you will be sent a link to complete an ADF Aptitude Test that will test your cognitive ability. You will have only once chance at this so ensure you are well prepared. Access our free test below

Step 3

YOU Session

The “Your Opportunities Unlimited” (YOU) Session involves aptitude testing, job selection counselling, and career exploration. This step helps align your skills and interests with the right role in the ADF.

Step 4

ADF Assessment Day

A comprehensive evaluation day involving medical checks, psychological assessments, and interviews to determine your suitability for service. This is a critical step towards enlistment.

Step 5 (if applicable)

ADF Additional Testing

For candidates that have chosen an Aviation category as one of their preferences, they will be required to undertake additional testing in East Sale, Victoria in which their score will dictate whether they are able to remain in contention for a position.

Step 6

ADF Officer Selection Board (OSB)

The OSB can be offered through both physical and virtual sessions depending on your location. This acts as the final job interview for Officer candidates in order to determine their absolute suitability for the characteristics and intelligence required.

Fitness Test

Enlistment and Training

Upon passing all stages, you’ll receive an enlistment date and begin recruit training at a designated ADF facility. This training equips you with foundational military skills and knowledge.
